Episode #170: An Orphan's Journey Featuring Charles Smith

“Once I learned what was going on with me because all this time I knew I was different. I knew I had something going on but I had no idea what it was. All this time, I felt empty, but now it was filling up and once that void was filled, I knew what I could do. I began getting the pieces back together and fixing my life and putting my life back together.”

Life is full of its ups and downs. One day, you may feel like you have it all figured out. Then, in a moment’s notice, you’ve been thrown a curve ball. You’re not alone in these feelings. Everyone has to face their own set of challenges. Learning how to overcome challenges will help you stay centered and remain calm under pressure.

Whether we're trying to be a better leader or a better person, the ability assess and evaluate where we're at versus where you want to be is key to the overall self improvement process. It’s something you do not only for your benefit but for the sake of those who you look to make a positive impact on.

“We all have to find our own way, I can teach somebody my coping skills but if they don't work for you, because they're my coping skills, then they don't work. You got to find your own coping skills that are going to work for you.”

Charles is a lifelong survivor of multiple different trauma's including but not limited to being orphaned at a young age, being a homeless veteran, and surviving a suicide attempt, 10 years before his son was born. He comes to us now as an inspiration of proof that you can overcome the worst life has to offer and use your pain as a building block in support of others.

Charles joins Audley on The Audacious Living Podcast to discuss the personal challenges he’s had to endure, managing PTSD, what his healing journey looked like and the importance of overcoming adversity.
