To fully grasp the concept of servant leadership means that we must first do away with our understanding of what we think leadership is and recognizing its commitment to putting others first.

Servant leaders value people for who they are, not just for what they give to the organization. Humility helps servant leaders to recognize that its not all about them—things are accomplished through others.

They seek to understand before being understood and they do so by listening.

They give trust to their people and regularly demonstrate care through their actions.

Throughout the Scriptures, there are numerous that demonstrate how Jesus lived his life engaging people in such a way; He served them in such a way that their lives changed by his encounter with them with the most powerful example of him washing the feet of his disciples.

“The servant leaders are the ones who people follow and are drawn to. You can feel when someone's invested in you, and cares personally about your development. I will follow that person to the day I die off the cliff's edge versus someone who I know is saying the right things and doing the proper moves, but is all in it for themselves.”
